Conditions Treated in the Liver Clinic (Hepatology)
The Liver Clinic (Hepatology) treats the following conditions:

This is a later stage of liver scarring (brosis) caused by various forms of liver diseases and conditions, such as chronic Hepatitis, chronic alcoholism or fatty liver disease. This is usually a silent liver disease in the early stages but advances rapidly once symptoms appear.

A highly contagious liver infection caused by consuming contaminated food or water. This is an acute viral infection and does not lead to chronic infection or Cirrhosis.

An infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus, which is transmitted through exposure to an infected person's blood or bodyuid. This is an acute infection, but in some cases it is a silent infection and leads to chronic infection and Cirrhosis. Although there is no cure for Hepatitis B, medication and preventive care can protect the liver from further damage.

ALCOHOLIC LIVER DISEASE (ALD)

Liver in ammation that occurs in people who consume large amounts of alcohol over a long period of time. This persistent in ammation leads to brosis, and eventually results in Cirrhosis of liver (last stage of brosis).

The most advanced form of alcoholic liver disease, alcoholic Cirrhosis occurs when scar tissue replaces soft healthy tissue in people who drink heavily.

A rare form of Cirrhosis that occurs in old age. It damages the ability to produce bile, which helps the liver do its job.

A genetic disease in which liver ducts become obliterated and leads to bile stasis, and consequently Cirrhosis of liver.

A metabolic abnormality in liver cells causing copper depositions that lead to Cirrhosis and various neurological abnormalities.

Various autoimmune disorders also affect the liver and lead to chronic Hepatitis and Cirrhosis. Diagnosing this at an early stage can prevent disease progression and the formation of Cirrhosis with timely intervention and proper medication.

Also known as iron overload disease, this condition happens when your body absorbs too much iron from the foods you eat.

Swelling in the liver that can be a sign of an underlying condition, such as Hepatitis.

A complication of advanced liver disease, or the result of cancer spreading to your liver from another organ. Primary and metastatic Liver Cancer is treated by closely monitoring Cirrhotic or chronic Hepatitis patients.

The buildup of abnormal amounts of fat in your liver. This condition is caused by many factors, but obesity with an inactive lifestyle and drug use are two of the biggest factors. This is the fastest growing liver disease due to the change in the lifestyle of Indians. These patients develop Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer at an early stage of life if corrective measures are not taken in time.

Blood and other imaging tests (USG /CT scan or MRI) that detect liver disease at an early stage, measure the degree of in ammation and severity of damage to the liver. These tests allow the physician to render treatment with precision.
