Advanced TreatmentWith Utmost Care

The AKD department was opened in 1974 with two Artificial Haemodialysis Machines, and 3 additional machines added in 1978.

CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) commenced for haemodynamically unstable patients in 1990. The Reverse Osmosis plant for the complete purification of dialysate fluid was installed in 2002. One dialysis machine was installed in ICU.

The department also has CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Treatment) therapy machines (BM 25 Baxter) for bedside dialysis by CVVHD (continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration) for critically serious ICU patients who are on ventilators with fluid overload and hypotension.

The Cadaver Renal Transplant was another highlight of 2002. Three successful retrievals paved way for another seven kidneys, obtained from other hospitals, benefiting ten patients in a span of two years followed by one more sucessful retrieval and transplant in 2006.

The newly renovated department named - "Kunjlata & Ramesh Chandra Dalal - Dialysis Centre" is equipped with a total of ten state-of-the-art volumetric fully computerized haemodialysis machines with touch screen that operate in two shifts. The duration of effective dialysis is reduced to 4.5 - 5 hours with even greater efficiency.

Treatment & Surgeries

We have 18 state-of-the-art haemodialysis machines and a double RO system for ultra-pure water to provide haemodialysis as per AAMI standards. There are separate isolation rooms for HCV, HBsAg and other seriously ill patients. Vascular surgery procedures like Shunt, AV Fistula, AV Graft Central Line and Permacath Insertions are done regularly.

With the latest available treatment and technology, we ensure that you will have access to the best possible, consistent and safe dialysis treatment round-the-clock, administered by a highly skilled Nephrology team and Dialysis staff.

We have a robust Renal Transplant Program where Nephrologists, Urologists and Transplant Surgeons work as a complete team. Our success rate is comparable to the best in the world. In the last two years, we have performed the highest number of Cadaver Renal Transplants in North India. We perform Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy to ensure that the donor suffers minimal pain and benefits from early recovery.

Before transplant, complete evaluation of the patient is done as a rule which may include investigations like Renal Biopsy, Renal Functioning Test and assessment of reversible causes as and when needed.

After the patient is stabilized, they are counselled on various aspects of transplant, including evaluation of potential donors, preparation of recipient and cross matching of tissue typing to ensure successful Renal Transplant.

The Transplant ICU is manned by highly efficient nurses and doctors. The ICU has lamellar airflow so that post-operation infections are minimized as much as possible.

We also offer Preemptive Kidney Transplant, Highly Antigenic Kidney Transplant Surgery, Re-Transplant and Transplantation in HIV Positive patients. ABOincompatible Kidney Transplant are also done at the Centre

Home Peritoneal Dialysis can be done right at home for your complete convenience. Patients and relatives are personally trained by the BLK technical staff to save time, money and energy spent in travelling to the hospital thrice a week. What's more, it involves fewer requirements for blood transfusion and less restrictions on food and fluid intake.

All arrangements pertaining to home haemodialysis machine, RO supply and technical staff are arranged by the BLK Centre for Renal Sciences & Kidney Transplant. Patients and their relatives are taught to perform haemodialysis at home, usually at night time before sleeping, 3 to 7 nights a week, as per the patient's condition. We also provide technician for dialysis at home.
